Freaking Crazy Japanese Style

Oh. Oh hey. Hey guys. HEY! GUYS! Welcome!

Today's blog post will just be a quick one!

Something I love about Japanese fashion is that there are no boundaries. You want to wear an apron out on the street? Fuck yeah man, you go do that.

There's something refreshing about the participation of people in representing themselves honestly. Here, people typically roll their eyes or point and whisper if they see something that isn't normal.

If you want to wear normal clothes, cool. But I don't get why people have to back-talk these creative people. Newsflash: normal gets you nowhere.

So here are some of my picks out of the Kera mag I sifted through. Enjoy!

NYLON BOOOOOOMB

I'll tell you this now-- I barely EVER read magazines, or even newspapers, back to front. I also never grew up in a household that invested money in newspaper or magazine subscriptions. I did it once for a fundraiser to support my own field trip, but that's as far as my "subscription experience" goes. And quite frankly, as long as libraries exist, I really don't feel the need to have to subscribe to anything print, ever.

I used to follow Nylon every month as well as I could, but hit a big fat lapse. So I decided to capitalize on the time I spent with my God-sister hanging out on the library. I attacked this stack:

Even when I used to try to keep myself updated with Nylon in the past, I knew that it wasn't really my thing. I grew up with a couple of girls who loved lolita and reading lolita magazines. It was through flipping through one of my girlfriend's magazines that I found out about brands such as Alice and the Pirates. I also became more interested in Japanese street fashion and picked up more material that focused on those in the library.

Quite simply, North American fashion ain't got nothing on Asian fashion.

I also, much more recently, started developing an appreciation for South Korean style, especially through a band called 2ne1. Their music videos always catch my eye and even though I'm not entirely into KPop as much as I was into JPop and JRock when I was in grade seven, I have an undying liking for the colours, textures, fabrics and general design that they, the band, remix.

The following are the few things that caught my eye while sifting through 10 months of Nylon magazines. Underneath will be a brief comment on why I took a liking to the particular image.

Cool eye-make up. I only wear eye make-up, so I love seeing different styles of it. image

I love that she's wearing a severely patterned shirt underneath a very plain dress. image

SO COOL, LA! image

An interesting take on make-up. image

Reminded me that I want to act or perform one day. Because one lifetime just isn't good enough.

I've always loved something about photo subjects that are wearing masculine clothing that still manage to maintain elements of femininity. image

This is the kind of remixing I was referring to when talking about fashion found in KPop. These hats instantly reminded me of the hats designer Jeremy Scott came out with. He made some hats that applie what I think are baroque, cut-out embroidered pieces and the "1" found on American 1 dollar bills. (See below.)

She looks like a human version of Mrs. Potts, but with pink hair and not yet a mother to Chip. (I hope you follow me on this one.) image

Omgs, Akash Nihalani, you are a genius. NEON 2D CUT-OUTS!!!! I mean COME ONNNNNNN, how is that not pure brilliance? image

More awesome eye-make up... image

I love the lip-colour and how bold it is. However, I'm unsure if I'd ever wear it. I also thought the the heading, "metal mouth," was quite clever and in need of recognition. image

THIS IS A GENIUS DIY IDEA. Adding shit to yo boots to make them sicker than they already are. image

I just thought this was a fucking awesome, and somehow very simple photo. Yes, I used the F word because that is how stoked I am about this photomagraph. DON'T JUDGE ME. Or you know, do whatever. imageimageimageimage

MOAR COOL EYE MAKE-UP. image

A mermaid with a baseball cap. image

Modern-day mad hatter with hipster flare. image

Oh, you know, just a cute boy with a really nice sweater. No seriously, look at the clasp detail of that sweater. *might like sweater more than boy* image

I liked that R a lot. image

What I thought would be a cool DIY project.. Until I realized I'd probably never wear it out LOL image

Mandatory musical genius post. Guys, meet San Cisco. And no, they have nothing to do with San Francisco image

Mandatory Hayley Williams appreciation post, because her bangs are baller. So is that shirt. And her hair. rainbowdashiexx:

Magically delicious

(These aren't really corresponding as much as they did when I started LOL DEAL WIT IT I'M A FREE WOMAN)

EYYYYEZZZ MAKEUPZORZZZ image

I just thought this was a freakin' cool two-page ad, like woah I mean come on, who would've thought of shooting at night, in the ocean PLEASE! 63 Here, have a shining turkey with your confession that Volcom is genius here.

i i i i carumba image

Cool art.

FINALLY! I FOUND A GIRL WHO HAS FLOW. Must find a way to replicate...!

More very cool pencil art.

Omg. beaut. Seriously, no emoticon required.

I thought that maybe she could be one of the characters in my stories. She reminds me of the White Witch from Narnia, except possibly nicer or even more of a bitch. Kind of like Dr. Sharp from Scott Westerfeld's UGLIES series.

I love the composition of this photo. She looks dead. (That's not weird of me at all.)

I dunno, cool light fixtures.

Something about the shitty set-up of this photo caught me. Like it was taken by an amateur, but not really. Like, I can really feel the moment in this one, like someone went to the washroom and they're gonna be right back to eat their very real food. None of that Photoshop stuff. Just a fragment in time.

And this one I just like because of the text element. I tried to produce stuff like this back when I was 15 and never really managed to do it at the level that I was completely and thoroughly satisfied.

AAAAND that my friends was the "Jen's-brain-while-going-through-magazines" tour. I'm gonna go to sleep now. Hoping for some weird dreams. ♥
